I was so cynical, just inconvincible, nobody seemed worth trusting.
But sure enough, just when I’d near given up, you appeared there among the destruction. The entire room is buzzling with excitment, and she can’t really say that she doesn’t understand. A new member certainly is something huge when it comes to New Directions, especially if it is a football player. It’s not news that they’re on the bottom of the social pyramid, and whatever help they can get is good. Also, this new kid makes them twelve again, so it’s something good, right? She just hopes the new guy can sing.
After a few minutes, Finn walks in pulling another guy and she’s immediately rendered speechless. Her eyes fall to the boy as he stands in the middle of the room, shifting awkwardly from one foot to the other, clearly not knowing how to act in front of them. Before she can notice, her body is leaning forward, head tilting to the side as she feels something pulling her towards him. She wants to fight it - it’s actually her first instinct - but it’s stronger than her, for some odd reason.
“Uh, I’m Sam,” he says, eyes darting around the room before they meet her gaze and she immediately feels her cheeks growing hotter, something she doesn’t remember ever experiencing in her entire life. “Sam Evans.”
Before she can fight it, a smile is taking over her lips, and when he smiles back, eyes shining with something she can’t quite tell, she feels good somehow, reassured. After everything she’s been through, she thinks maybe it’s nice to meet someone who will give her a clean slate, a chance to start a new history without a dark past shadowing them. It feels better than she can ever hope to explain.
Maybe Sam Evans is her chance to make things right.
